Frog and Toad シリーズは日本でも『がまくんとかえるくん』の名前で国語の本に載るほど有名な物語です。 私が初めてこの物語を読んだのは小学生の時でした。それ以来ずっと大好きなお話です。

優しいストーリーに添えられたイラストも素敵で、繊細で淡い色使いが、それだけで、優しい気持ちにさせてくれます。

主人公は、友達想いのでこぼこコンビのカエルたち。

スラっと背の高い緑色のかえるくんはいつも優しく明るくてポジティブですが、茶色のがまくんは慎重になんでも考え、マイペースな性格で、すぐに塞ぎ込んでしまうところがあります。

真面目すぎるがまくんにはつい「くすっ」とさせられてしまい、明るくて優しいかえるくんには「ほっ」とさせられます。

日常生活で悩み考えたり、辛いときには支え合ったり、ときにはお互いの意見が合わなかったり、ハッピーな気持ちのシェアだけではない友情について大切なことを短い物語を通して学ぶことができます。

このシリーズは40年以上も愛され続ける名作なので、日本語では読んだことがある方も多いかもしれません。 これを機会に、ぜひ英語版を読んでみて下さい下さい！

短めでテンポの良い英語のセンテンスなので英検の4級3級をもっている方にも挑戦できるながさですが、日常生活で使う英語にたくさんふれることができます。

The “Frog and Toad” series is so famous that it even appears in Japanese textbooks as "がまくんとかえるくん". The first time I read these stories was when I was in elementary school. Since then, they have been my favorite stories.

The softly colored pictures are really wonderful and very beautiful, and they make the stories have a gentle atmosphere. The main characters are a thoughtful but odd couple. The tall, slender green Frog is always gentle and positive. The short, brown, Toad always thinks too carefully and is pessimistic. Toad being too serious makes me chuckle, while Frog being really kind makes me feel relieved.

Life has its ups and downs, even if something is not that big of a deal, and because of these ups and downs, friendship is really important. But being a friend doesn’t only have good times, sometimes it has hard times. Through these stories, we can learn importance of caring for each other.

This series has been loved by many for more than 40 years, so you may have already read them in Japanese. Next time, I recommend that you try reading them in English. The sentences are not so long, so I think that they are suitable for people who have a reading ability equivalent to Eiken 4th or 3rd grade.
